And, you guessed it. It's McDonalds. Almost everyone's favorite fast food place.
But that is now and not then. If I was 12 years old and it was 1954, there would have
to be a few more years, perhaps, before McDonald's came to the town of
Bridgewater.

OUR HISTORY
"As proud to make history as we are to make burgers.
From drive-thru restaurants to Chicken McNuggets to college credits from
Hamburger U, we’ve had quite a journey. And we’re still going. But to take a
look into our past, we need to share the story of one man.
The Ray Kroc Story
How do you create a restaurant business and become an overnight success at
the age of 52? As Ray Kroc said, “I was an overnight success alright, but 30
years is a long, long night.”
Origins
In 1917, 15-year-old Ray Kroc lied about his age to join the Red Cross as an
ambulance driver, but the war ended before he completed his training. He
then worked as a piano player, a paper cup salesman and a Multimixer
salesman.
In 1954, he visited a restaurant in San Bernardino, California that had
purchased several Multimixers. There he found a small but successful
restaurant run by brothers Dick and Mac McDonald, and was stunned by the
effectiveness of their operation. They produced a limited menu, concentrating
on just a few items – burgers, fries and beverages – which allowed them to
focus on quality and quick service.
They were looking for a new agent and Kroc saw an opportunity. In 1955,
he founded McDonald’s System, Inc., a predecessor of the McDonald’s
Corporation, and six years later bought the exclusive rights to the McDonald’s
name. By 1958, McDonald’s had sold its 100 millionth hamburger.
A Unique Philosophy
Ray Kroc wanted to build a restaurant system that would be famous for
providing food of consistently high quality and uniform methods of
preparation. He wanted to serve burgers, buns, fries and beverages that
tasted just the same in Alaska as they did in Alabama.
To achieve this, he chose a unique path: persuading both franchisees and
suppliers to buy into his vision, working not for
McDonald’s but for themselves, together with McDonald’s. He promoted the
slogan, “In business for yourself, but not by yourself.” His philosophy was
based on the simple principle of a 3-legged stool: one leg was McDonald’s
franchisees; the second, McDonald’s suppliers; and the third, McDonald’s
employees. The stool was only as strong as the three legs that formed its
foundation.
“If I had a brick for every time I’ve repeated the phrase Quality, Service,
Cleanliness and Value, I think I’d probably be able to bridge the Atlantic
Ocean with them.” – Ray Kroc
System First
First and foremost, Kroc advocated adherence to the system approach. So
while many of McDonald’s most famous menu items – like the Big Mac,
Filet-O-Fish and Egg McMuffin – were created by franchisees, the
McDonald’s operating system required franchisees to follow the core
McDonald’s principles of quality, service, cleanliness and value.
The Roots of Quality
McDonald’s passion for quality meant that every single ingredient was tested,
tasted and perfected to fit the operating system. Kroc shared his vision of
McDonald’s future, selling his early suppliers on future volumes. They believed
in him and the restaurant boomed.
Again, Ray Kroc was looking for a partnership, and he managed to create the
most integrated, efficient and innovative supply system in the food service
industry. These supplier relationships have flourished over the decades. In
fact, many McDonald’s suppliers operating today first started business with
a handshake from Ray Kroc.
Hamburger University
In 1961, Kroc launched a training program, later called Hamburger University,
at a new restaurant in Elk Grove Village, Illinois. There, franchisees were
trained on the proper methods for running a successful McDonald’s restaurant.
Hamburger U utilized a research and development laboratory in nearby
Addison, Illinois to develop new cooking, freezing, storing and serving
methods. Today, more than 80,000 people have graduated from the program.
The Legend Lives On
Right up until he died on January 14, 1984, Ray Kroc never stopped working
for McDonald’s. His legacy continues to this day as the system provides
McDonald’s customers with great tasting, affordable food; crew and
franchisees with opportunities for growth; and suppliers with a shared
commitment to provide the highest quality ingredients and products.
From his passion for innovation and efficiency, to his relentless pursuit
of quality, to his many charitable contributions, Ray Kroc’s legacy continues
to be an inspirational and integral part of McDonald’s – today and into the
future.

Netherlands vs. Holland
"What is the difference between Holland and the Netherlands? The Netherlands
consists of 12 provinces but many people use “Holland” when talking about
the Netherlands.
The two provinces of Noord- and Zuid-Holland together are Holland.
The 12 provinces together are the Netherlands.
Holland is often used when all of the Netherlands is meant.
The official name of the country is the Kingdom of the Netherlands. King
Willem-Alexander is the king of the nation. Holland actually only means
the two provinces of Noord-Holland and Zuid-Holland. However, the name
Holland is often used when all of the Netherlands is meant.
A brief history of the Netherlands and Holland
Between 1588 and 1795, the area currently representing the Netherlands
was the Republic of Seven United Netherlands. The republic was conquered
by French troops in 1795 and became the Batavian Republic. Napoleon
appointed his brother Louis as king in 1806, turning the country into a
kingdom. The Netherlands remained a kingdom after Napoleon’s defeat.
At that time, the area called “Holland” made the biggest contribution to
the entire nation’s economy and wealth. As such it became the commonly
used name to indicate the entire country.
Nature in Holland
Holland is known as a flat country. As such the landscape is perfect for
cycling and walking tours. The countless nature parks, each with its own
character, offer up wonderful landscapes. You could visit Oostvaarders
Plassen or the Hoge Veluwe, for instance, and explore the unique flora and
fauna.
Holland also boasts a long coastline with beautiful beaches. Because there
is so much water, the Netherlands is at risk of flooding. The authorities have
implemented measures like the Afsluitdijk and Delta Works, unique structures
that are definitely worth visiting.
Typically Dutch
When you think about Holland, you probably think of tulips, windmills and
cheese. These and other icons can be found throughout Holland. Friesland
and Zeeland are wonderful provinces for cycling tours, Noord-Brabant and
Gelderland are the place to discover art by Vincent van Gogh, Bosch and
other Dutch masters, and traditional cheese can be enjoyed in Limburg.
Unique in Holland: Drenthe boasts prehistoric remains, such as the
megalithic tombs called hunebeds. If the weather turns cold enough,
ice-skating enthusiasts can register for the Elfstedentocht. This route on
natural ice takes you to eleven Friesian cities. If there is no ice, the cities
are well worth a visit even when the weather is good.
Holidays in Holland
Every country has its own holidays. The most famous holidays in Holland are
Sinterklaas and King’s Day. Sinterklaas is celebrated in December, with
children receiving presents when they have been ‘good’. King’s Day is when
the Dutch celebrate their king’s birthday. It is a national holiday celebrated
mainly in the streets with many music acts and draws many tourists every
year.
City trip in Holland
Are you looking for a great city for a weekend trip? Holland has many cities
that offer plenty of entertainment with historic architecture, museums, city
parks, and restaurants and cafés. You can visit Amsterdam, Rotterdam,
Utrecht, Den Haag, Maastricht or Haarlem, for instance.
Visiting Holland becomes even more special if you spend the night in a
wonderful location. And there are plenty of those. Check out our selection
of hotels, both in cities and in smaller villages and natural surroundings."

Avoiding Chemical in Plastics Causes Weight Loss
By Sylvia Booth Hubbard | Friday, 04 Nov 2016
"Bisphenol A (BPA) is an industrial chemical used to make plastics used in food
and beverage containers. More than 130 studies have linked BPA, which is a
proven endocrine disrupter, to a long list of health problems, including
diabetes, breast and prostate cancer, weight gain, diabetes, and infertility.
However, avoiding the chemical for only three weeks can reduce the amount
of BPA in the urine, says a new study reported in Journal of Women's Health,
which also found that women lost a significant amount of weight.
Women who participated in the study were divided into two groups. One
group avoided foods, cosmetics, and other products packaged in plastic
containers that contained BPA, and the second group served as a control.
At the end of three weeks, the women who avoided BPA had large reductions
in the amount of the chemical in their urine. The women in the control group
who did not take part in the BPA-limiting intervention, had significant
increases in both urinary BPA levels and weight gain after three weeks.
"This study shows that by switching to BPA-free products it is, in fact, possible
for women who have been exposed to BPA to reduce their body burden of the
compound, as measured by urinary BPA levels," says Susan G. Kornstein, MD,
editor in chief of Journal of Women's Health.
"Although many consumers tend to reject products made of plastics containing
BPA, there are unfortunately still many other endocrine disrupting chemicals
in our environment."
You can avoid BPA by choosing fresh foods and those in glass containers
instead of those in cans. Buy plastic containers with the recycling labels
No. 1, No. 2, No. 4 , and No. 5 on the bottom, and avoid those with No. 3, No. 7,
or PC (polycarbonate)."

The people around Donald Trump
The hotel developer who became president
Donald Trump has named more conservative hardliners for key posts, with
Alabama Senator Jeff Sessions nominated as attorney general.
Mr Sessions, a former prosecutor, was turned down for a federal judgeship
in 1986 because of alleged racist remarks.
Congressman Mike Pompeo is nominated as CIA director and retired Lt Gen
Michael Flynn made national security adviser.
Mr Trump's latest picks were praised on Twitter by David Duke, former
leader of the white supremacist KKK group.
In a statement, Mr Trump called Mr Sessions a "world class legal mind".
"Jeff is greatly admired by legal scholars and virtually everyone who knows
him," he added.
Mr Sessions said in a statement that he "enthusiastically" embraced
President-elect Trump's vision for "one America and his commitment to equal
justice under law".
"I look forward to fulfilling my duties with an unwavering dedication to fairness
and impartiality," he said.
The people around President-elect Trump
Jeff Sessions dogged by racism claims
Mike Pompeo - America's likely new spymaster
Mr Sessions, 69, and Gen Flynn, 57, have been close allies of Mr Trump since
the early days of his campaign and share many of his views.
Retired three-star general Michael Flynn will be national security adviser,
according to insiders
Mr Sessions opposes any path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants
and was an enthusiastic backer of Mr Trump's pledge to build a wall on the
border with Mexico.
In 1986, Mr Sessions was nominated by then-President Ronald Reagan for a
federal judgeship, but was rejected because of allegations that he had made
racist remarks. He strongly denied the claims.
The Trump administration is taking shape, and so far he is filling the top slots
with men who are hardliners, close allies or both.
The president-elect has been making overtures towards portions of the party
that opposed him, such as meeting with South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley
on Thursday and scheduling a sit-down on Sunday with 2012 Republican
nominee Mitt Romney - who earlier this year called him a con artist and a
fraud.
Time will tell, however, whether those moves are legitimate efforts to diversify
his coterie of advisers or just for show....
Mr Pompeo has also been a fierce critic of President Barack Obama's nuclear
deal with Iran, tweeting on Thursday: "I look forward to rolling back this
disastrous deal with the world's largest state sponsor of terrorism."
Former Ku Klux Klan leader David Duke previously praised Mr Trump for his
appointment of Stephen Bannon as chief White House adviser. But Mr Trump
has poured scorn on the KKK and Mr Duke, describing him as "a bad person".

I had to wear shoes because there was a light dusting of snow on the ground. The

I went out to the garage (5:48 AM 11/20/2016 EDT) again to make my 2nd pot

except the wind has picked up a little and the wind chill has dropped maybe
