STORIES OF MY LIFE AND TOLD IN ONE DAY....

You don't have to climb the mountain. But if you talk someone who has climbed

the mountain you will know a little bit more about it thereby creating something

in you mind, if you remember it, that you can talk to someone else about. Little

confused? Well, maybe I am too.

Let me try to explain what I just said in a different way.

I, being over friendly and alone, have talked to a lot of people. When I say talk, I

don't mean me talking. I don't learn anything if the only one that's talking is me.

To learn I need to listen. That's what I do. I mostly listen.

So, with that out of the way, let me try to explain in a different way what I typed in

the first paragraph.

Let's say that greet a person like I always do and instead of just saying Hi they

may want to talk a minute or so. I listen with my ears, eyes (no, not my nose) and

body language (to indicate I'm listening intently). I may also talk if they give a sign

that they want me to, but I never interrupt. I may know everything they are talking

about but usually not. So, I've gained some new knowledge that I can use in

conversing with other people I meet.

And if you have greeted and conversed with the hundreds of people that I've met

during my lifetime you will never run out of something important to say

I hope that explains it.

And you know there's something else, I gain knowledge from looking on the

computer using Google search for matching quotes and other necessary things,

but it ain't as good as listening and talking to a real live person.

WORLD

*I received the following email just this morning from postcrossing.com:

Hello Forrest!

This is a copy of the message you wrote when you registered postcard

JP-915520 from __________ , in Japan. Use it for archiving/tracking purposes.

You wrote:

“Hi __________ ,

Thank you for the postcard of the fireworks festival in Bangkok.

The postcard, stamps and sticker are beautiful.

I will mention you (not your name) and your country in my story of today

(January 11 EDT} on my web site: iliveinmycarandeatverywell.com.

I will also upload the front of the postcard to Facebook. (I forgot to say that I

would also upload the postcard to Google +, Tumbler and Twitter).

Thanks again,

Forrest”

Japan

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Country in East Asia

"Japan is an island nation in the Pacific Ocean with dense cities, imperial palaces,

mountainous national parks and thousands of shrines and temples. Shinkansen

bullet trains connect the main islands of Kyushu (with Okinawa's subtropical

beaches), Honshu (home to Tokyo and Hiroshima’s atomic-bomb memorial) and

Hokkaido (famous for skiing). Tokyo, the capital, is known for skyscrapers,

shopping and pop culture.

Capital: Tokyo

Population: 127.3 million (2013) World Bank

Emperor: Akihito

Prime minister: Shinzō Abe

GDP per capita: 38,633.71 USD (2013) World Bank"

*My son Michael served in Japan as a member of the U.S. Air Force. He loved it.

Great country, great people.

*Emperor Akihito will abdicate on New Year's Day 2019 allowing his eldest son to

ascend to throne. It will be the first abdication in two centuries.

HEALTH

*I'm going to stop typing about my health. That's what old people do and I don't

want you to think I'm an old person. I'm only 7 decades + 4 years old.

A survey was taken that said that 1/3 of people between 65 and 74 felt 10 to 19

years younger. I feel younger than that.

Most people in the survey said old age begins at 68. No, they're wrong.

The survey went on to state that people getting the senior discount says old age

begins at 75. Wrong again.

When people under 30 were asked the same question they said that old age

begins at 60. Wrong, wrong and wrong.

I'm aggravated at those people under 30 for saying that because I feel much

like one of them.

*A preventive health specialist at the Cleveland Clinic has stated that lemon

juice is one of the best ways to aid your digestion and works with the body to

nourish and enhance proper function.

I've been to the Cleveland Clinic a lot of times and they didn't tell me that, but

I knew lemon juice was good for you but I didn't know in what way it helped

your body. I told you the other day that I have a V-8 bottle with water and a cut

up 1/2 lemon in it.

*Dylan Roof, a white supremacist, was sentenced to death by a 12 person jury

for the black church shootings in Charleston, South Carolina. He killed nine

people and showed no emotion or remorse as the verdict was read.

*The Obama administration is attempting to change the police policies in two

of America's most violent cities. Chicago and Baltimore.

*Sports announcers and others are privy to all kinds statistics about individual

sports players. I just saw the leading punter in the National Football League,

Brad Wing, has punted for 4,297 total yards. He is a player for the New York

Giants.

*FIFA stands for the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (English:

International Federation of Association Football). It governs football (soccer),

futsal (played with 5 players on each side, on a smaller field and usually

indoors) and beach soccer.

On Tuesday the governing counsel of the FIFA approved a plan to expand the

every 4 year (quadrennial) tournament from 32 to 48 teams by 2026.

POLITICS

*In President Obama's farewell speech in Chicago last evening he emphazied

threats to U.S. democracy and the hope for unity in America.

*In an intelligence briefing, Trump was told that Russia tried to "compromise the

president-elect with damaging information about his businesses and finances."

*Trump is urging senate Republicans to repeal Obama Care (the Affordable

Care Act) as soon as possible.

*(12:08 PM 1/11/2017 EDT). From my computer screen and the Washington Post.

Trump will shift his assets and management of his companies to his two sons.

In his press conference today, he said he will take a hands off approach to his

vast network of businesses not even discussing the businesses with his sons.

He said that this another reason for not releasing his tax returns.

*Trump is right now (12:12 PM 1/11/2017 EDT) saying in his first news

conference since July that he believes that Russia "meddled" in the presidential

election.

*The World Bank says that Trump's tax cuts could jump start world economy.

*The President-elect has picked the present undersecretary of health in

Veterans Affairs, David Shulkin to lead that department.

*Conformation hearings are in day 2 of hearings to confirm or not to confirm

Trump's choices for his cabinet. I watching, listening just now to the television

(1:32 PM 1/11/2017 EDT) to people for and against Jeff Sessions as Attorney

General. This hearing is being held before the Senate Judiciary Committee.

I just heard a heckler, but it was only for about 20 seconds. I assume that the

security forces have escorted her out. I ain't nothing against women for saying

that.It sounded like a woman's voice, but it could have been a man with a

woman's voice.

The hearings to confirm Jeff Sessions has ended (1:59 PM 1/11/2017 EDT).

Senator Cory Booker of New Jersey has testified not to confirm which is the

first time in history that one senator has spoken out against another senator in

a confirmation hearing.

*At this same time, Rex Tillerson, faces testifying in front of the Senate Foreign

Relations Committee as Trump's pick for Secretary of State.

*Rex Tillerson, the President-elect's choice for Secretary of State, is now

(2:32 PM 1/11/2017 EDT) personally answering questions from the members of

Senate Foreign Relations Committee.

*I've been watching and/or hearing much of Rex Tillerson's conformation

hearing. From what I've seen and heard I do not think that there will be any

opposition to Tillerson's confirmation. He is his own man, disagreeing with some

of the President-elect's proposals.

WEATHER

Weather for Smithville, Ohio

Today      RAIN                              49° 47°

Thu         RAIN                              56° 25°

Fri           MOSTLY_CLOUDY    29° 19°

Sat           CLOUDY                       32° 23°

The Weather Channel - Weather Underground - AccuWeather

Before I take the weather gauge outside (5:38 AM 1/11/2017 EDT) that I brought

in yesterday, I'm going to type the inside weather. The temperature is 72° (a

little warm for me) and the humidity is 44%. I'll wait an hour or so and then check

the outside weather following the same procedure that I did yesterday.

Well, that didn't take long (5:46 AM 1/11/2017 EDT). The other temperature only

gauge read 32°. It has rained at sometime during the night and the slick ice of

yesterday has disappeared. I saw one lone star in the heavens and I'm missing

the Big Dipper that I use to tell which way is north. I know which way is north.

The front of the house faces north, but I still like to use the heaven and its stars

to make sure nothing has changed in this universe of ours.

Just went outside (7:36 AM 1/11/2017 EDT) to check the weather gauges. The

temperature is 35°, the humidity is 78%, the wind is rushing in the south at

about 5 mph and in the eastern sky, "red in the morning, sailors warning."

I'm having an Orleans sardine sandwich this morning and I'm going to make

my 2nd pot of coffee.

I just went outside again to take two outgoing letters to the mailbox. The wind has

finally had its say about the banner American flag that has been flying just

above the front porch. Since I ain't no Betsy Ross, I'll have to buy a new one.

I still have two. One is the garden American flag catty-cornered and across

the road from our mailbox and in the front yard. The other is on the border

corner pole I'm always telling you about that I use to check the wind speed and

direction.
