STORIES OF MY LIFE AND TOLD IN ONE DAY....

CONTINUED FROM YESTERDAY....

" I'm almost at number 5 for today so I'll, with regret, continue this story

tomorrow...."

I going to finish this story today because the memories in mind are not as

strong as they once were when I was young. A lot of people my age start to

get dementia meaning my ability to recollect events is not as good as it once

was. You think I'm lying? Maybe.

I went to the checkout where Jennie was at because it was closer than going to

Rose's cash register. We talked for a while, still keeping busy ringing up my

purchases. I also talked to the woman behind, but I can't remember what it

was about. When leaving Lowes through the automatic exit doors I said thank

you and take care and they responded by saying you too.

I next went to Walmart were I had a list of things that the house and I needed. I

went in the left set of automatic doors if you are facing the store with my face

smiling at everyone and almost everyone smiled back. Kids smile back who have

the security of their parents that are close to them. I engaged in no extended

conversation until I went to the check out line, but that's for later on after I tell

you what happened before that.

I helped an elderly woman get an item off the top self. I'm still about 6 foot or

less because of gravity, and you need to be 6 foot 5 inches to reach the top shelf

where I need to step on the bottom shelf to reach the top.

I smiled at everyone as is my way of greeting people and as I said yesterday 95%

of those people smiled back. It was almost like a dance weaving and saying

excuse me's and sorry's to the tune of the Walmart radio. I thanked three or more

veterans who wore the cap and they said thank you to me for saying that.

I said a lot more excuse me's, thank you's and sorrys, but I don't remember the

maybe 50 or more people that I said those things to.

So, off to the checkout line with the items I needed. Angel was the cashier I talked

to and the lady behind me wore a sweatshirt that said Washington, D.C. I ask her

if she was an Obama supporter, she said no it was just a trip to the city for school

children. I was chatting with Angel and the lady for about 5 minutes and at the

same time placing my paid for items into my cart. After paying with a credit card

and was about leave I said to the lady, bye Hillary and she just smiled.

I said goodbye to Angel and the lady with a smile and proceeded to go to car and

an offload the items I'd purchased.

I was hungry so I went to McDonald's. Like Mother would have wanted, I went

into McDonald's not going through the drive through. At the take your order

counter I met for at least the 2nd time a nice young man. We had talked about

Michael Vick before because he was a Philadelphia Eagles fan. He told me that

he believes Michael Vick has retired. Vick had been arrested and jailed for dog

fighting, but he said that the quarterback was not at the dog fight, but his sons had

used his dogs for fighting. I didn't know that.

I soon had my chicken grilled ranch wraps (2) that I like so well plus a drink for $1.

I then set at the counter where I watched a TV news program while I ate my wraps

and drank my lo cal lemonade. There was no one around within listening or talking

distance so my last smile and friendly encounter was at the order counter with that

nice young man.

I next went to Dollar Tree to purchase several cans of chicken tamales which I

cannot find anywhere else. I also needed some birthday cards for Bill's birthday

which I mentioned yesterday. If you don't remember, my birthday card from me

to Bill said "Happy Birthday with all my fart" and after opening it it gave a farting

noise. There was a man and his wife in the card aisle and I said I couldn't find a

particular card that I wanted. After searching for a short time the man pointed to a

card in the cards behind me to a card I was seeking. I said thank you to both he

and his wife and patted him on the back as I was leaving the card section. I can

usually tell if people don't mind me touching them, staying at least 3 feet away of

those people who don't.

I went to the back of the checkout line and offering a lady and her husband to

get in front of me. The said no, but thank you anyway saying they were not in a

hurry. The lady in front of me with her daughter were getting gifts for their niece

and I ask are you spoiling her and they in unison said sure we are. After the lady

and her daughter had check out, I placed all my items on the moving counter and

started talking to the cashier, but just before that I said to the husband and wife

behind me last chance, they smiled and said no thank you again.

I left the Dollar Tree with a wonderful sense of happiness because of all of the

friendly people I came across that day and I know that their feelings about

themselves where uplifted because of a smiling total stranger.
