STORIES OF MY LIFE AND TOLD IN ONE DAY....

My Mother and I always use to park as far away from a store as we could so that

we could get the exercise of walking to the store when shopping.

I remember Mother telling me of her story of my Father and her walking hand

and hand from their small apartment in Staunton, Virginia up the hill on the

sidewalk to an old graveyard, for veterans from long ago, and then back to their

apartment hand-in-hand, of course. We took this same walk, Mother and I,

some years before she died, but their apartment has been torn down and

replaced by a fast food place, a Walmart across the street and a KFC (Kentucky

Fried Chicken) a couple of blocks west up the street. There is story that my

sister, Nancy, told of Mother and her going to KFC, it being a secret that I will

never tell the rest of my days. The only hint I will give you is that it involved a

non-caring person and that the facilities at KFC were desperately needed. Let

Nancy tell you if you want to know so bad.

Most people today do the exact opposite. They either park in a handicapped

parking space, although not a handicap person, park in the the space near the

store reserved for fire trucks and emergency vehicles or drive around for 20

minutes hoping to find a close-up parking space for a 30 step walk to the store

entry door.

What I'm getting at is that people are lazy because of drive-throughs and such

and it's not the companies fault, it's the lazy consumer's fault for wanting it this

way. It's making us all fatter and fatter and unhealthy and unhealthy.

A storey goes that the evil drug lord of Mexico, El Chapo, in one of his escapes

from prison, told his subordinates from to build a mile long tunnel to freedom.

They built the tunnel and he escaped. After the authorities found the tunnel they

notice a motorcycle at the end of the tunnel. El Chapo was too lazy to walk the

mile to freedom, he needed to ride to freedom, taking the easy way out.

WE CELEBRATE TODAY

*Imbolc – An Irish celebration observed also by the Scots, Manx people, Celtic

neopagans and Wiccans. It is a pagan festival and not a religious one and is

celebrated as the beginning of Spring. Those celebrating visit holy wells,

practice divination, hold feasts, make Brigid's crosses and Brídeógs and carry

out their Spring cleaning.

*World Hijab Day – Takes place on this day and in 140 countries worldwide, its

purpose is to encourage all women, no matter what their religion or background,

to  wear the Hijab (head dress).

WORLD

*Austria is readying itself to ban the full-face veils in public "joining Belgium,

the Netherlands, Bulgaria, and Switzerland, who also have approved similar

bans." Conservative Muslim women are most likely to be impacted by

Austria's full-face veil ban, which will apply to burqas ("also known as chadri

or paranja in Central Asia, is an enveloping outer garment worn by women in

some Islamic traditions to cover themselves in public") and niqab ("or niqāb is

a cloth that covers the face as a part of sartorial hijab. It is worn by some

Muslim women in public areas and in front of non-mahram men, ...").

*The suspect who attacked the Mosque in Quebec, Canada has been charged with 6

counts of murder.

*The President of the Philippines, Rodrigo Duterte, is in the news again. He ran for

election on a platform promising the Philippine people he would kill thousands of

criminals and encourage people to kill drug addicts. As Mayor of Davao, he was

criticized by HRW (Human Rights Watch) of killing hundreds of street children,

petty criminals and drug users carried out by the Davao Death Squad, a vigilante

group that Duterte was supposedly involved with. He has denied this now, but I

can from a month or more ago, Duterte bragged about killing criminals and drug

dealers and addicts and said that he would throw corrupt officials out of a

helicopter because he had done so before.

HEALTH

*Studies show that making crafts and playing games can protect an aging brain.

*Studies also show that popping balloons can cause hearing loss.

*My sputum has changed from a sticky clear oyster-like substance to a sticky

vanilla pudding (yellow) oyster-like substance which might indicate a chest

infection. I'm going to wait a few days to see if it clears up. If it doesn't, I'll phone

Dr. Kwok's office for an appointment and he will prescribed at least two

prescription medications, 2 to 5 shots in my buttocks and and a 5 to 7 minute

breathing treatment. The worse for me is the breathing treatment.

SPORTS

*Businesses wanting a 30 second commercial on this upcoming Super Bowl have

already shelled out $5,000,000 for that short time period. It wasn't much less last

year were businesses paid 4,800,000 for a 30 second ad. Some source always rates

the commercials and I believe some fans are more interested in the ads than the

game.

Super Bowl LI will be played this coming Sunday between the New England

Patriots and the Atlanta Falcons at the NGR Stadium in Houston, Texas. You can go

to the game and pay the average cost of about $8,500 or you might have to buy

a scalper's ticket that might raise your cost to over $10,000. But, like me, you can

watch the game for free on TV on Fox at 6:30 PM EST. I'm sure you can also watch

the game on your computer and your other devices.

fourth quarter and $27 billion or $27,000,000,000 in operating cash flow with

Apple stock shares rising more than 3%. Apple, Inc. trades on the NASDAQ

ENTERTAINMENT

*Reports say that diabetes was the major cause of long time TV producer and

actress, Mary Tyler Moore.

*You young people probably don't know about the Righteous Brothers (they

were not real brothers) who were "a musical duo of Bill Medley and (formerly)

Bobby Hatfield. They began performing together in 1962 in the Los Angeles

area." They were quite popular during my time and I know they'll be on YouTube.

After 41 years and the longest running cold case in Hermosa Beach, California

history, the police have identified the killer of Karen Klaus, ex-wife of Bill

Medley. "Klaas was sexually assaulted and killed when she returned home after

taking her son to school Jan. 30, 1976, according to The Washington Post. Police

say the 32-year-old was strangled with her pantyhose, and was unconscious

when police found her. Five days later, Klaas died in the hospital without ever

regaining consciousness, the Post reported.

Medley was notified when police identified Klaas’s killer (using DNA evidence)

as Kenneth Troyer, who was linked to several sexual assaults in southern

California. Troyer was killed by police in a shooting in 1982 after escaping from

prison, the Post said. Medley spoke at a news conference Monday with Klaas’s

two sons also present, the Post reported."

POLITICS

*Last evening President Trump chose 10th Circuit Court of Appeals Judge Neil

Gorsuch, age 49, to replace the late Justice Antonin Scalia, who died while on

vacation on February 24, 2016 at a west Texas ranch. Scalia "was among high-

ranking members of an exclusive fraternity for hunters called the International

Order of St. Hubertus, an Austrian society that dates back to the 1600s."

Controversy still surrounds the circumstances of his death because of the

secrecy of the fraternity.

*Former Republican Presidential candidate Senator Ted Cruz said that Gorsuch

pick by Trump is a "Home Run."

*Constitutional scholar and longtime Harvard Law professor Alan Dershowitz

calls Trump's choice of Gorsuch "a smart appointment. I think Trump was smart

to pick someone who was highly credentialed and hard to oppose. (Gorsuch is)

among the best people on that list of 21. He'll be hard to oppose on the merits."

*10:18 AM 2/1/2017 EST. From my computer screen and the Washington Post.

The Finance Committee approved Steve Mnuchin as Treasury secretary and

Rep. Tom Price as Health and Human Services secretary, with all Republicans on

the committee present and voting to advance the nominees to the Senate floor.

Committee Chair Orrin Hatch said the move to suspend the rules was approved

by the Senate parliamentarian and came after Democrats delayed consideration

of the nominations on Tuesday.

*11:51 AM 2/1/2017 EST. Breaking news. Jeff Sessions, Trump's choice for

attorney general goes to full Senate and he is expected to be confirmed after

being approved for the nomination by the Senate Judiciary Committee with

angry exchanges between Republicans and Democrats by 11 to 9 vote along

party lines.

*A well known pollster, Reuters, says their poll results indicate that a majority

of Americans favor the refugee ban.

*The CEO of Amazon, Jeff Bezos, supports the ACLU (American Civil Liberty

Union)'s suit opposing the refugee ban.

*The COO (Chief Operating Officer) of Facebook, Sheryl Sandberg who was

hired away from Google, says that the refugee ban is "Not How It Should Be in

America."

*7:41 AM 2/1/2017 EST. I took all of the trash from the house and placed the bag

in one of two large containers. There is no outgoing mail today so I did't have to

cross Smucker Road to the mailbox. On my way back inside and after looking

at the American flag and the sky, I grabbed the weather gauge and brought it

into the house. The sky is black with some grey just like my below shoulder

length hair (No, I'm wrong. My hair is brown with some grey) and the wind is

blowing in from west and slightly south at maybe 5 mph more or less. The

temperature is 35° and the humidity is 78%.

*8:50 AM 2/1/2017 EST. Inside temperature is 72° and the humidity is 55% and

the reading on the dehumidifier in the furnace room reads 36%???
