393rd post - 14 Mar 17 - 1833 ESDT - FINAL EDITION

"It ain't the trip that's important, it's what you see along the way."

Google search: "It ain't the trip that's important, it's what you see along the way."

*Ryan Michael has found another place to live that will give him more room to

work on the stories of his life. He found a small apartment in Orrville over

someone's garage and pays about $150 month. He said the owner's were an

elderly couple who needed a little extra income and that the rent could be

reduced sometimes if they needed help that he could do himself.

*1:17 PM 3/14/2017 EDST. Michael and Erin are just leaving the (1) quad city

area on the border of Illinois and Iowa. The have about 300 miles to go until

they get home in Omaha. I've made this trip by driving alone or by Greyhound

so many times I almost know it by heart.

(1) The Quad Cities, in order of descending population, are:

Davenport, Iowa.

Moline, Illinois.

Rock Island, Illinois.

Bettendorf, Iowa.

East Moline, Illinois.

*Celebrate Scientists Day - Sir Isaac Newton, Albert Einstein, Galileo Galilei,

Aristotle and Blaise Pascal are considered by many to be the five greatest

scientists of all time.

*Crowdfunding Day

*Genius Day -

IQ Scores & Ratings

"What is a good IQ ( Intelligence Quotient ) score?  What is a high IQ score?  What

is a low IQ score?  These are common questions, particularly after someone finds

out their score from an IQ test.

Lewis Terman (1916) developed the original notion of IQ and proposed this scale

for classifying IQ scores:

Over 140 - Genius or near genius

120 - 140 - Very superior intelligence

110 - 119 - Superior intelligence

90 - 109 - Normal or average intelligence

80 - 89 - Dullness

70 - 79 - Borderline deficiency

Under 70 - Definite feeble-mindedness

Normal Distribution & IQ Scores

The properties of the normal distribution apply to IQ scores:

50% of IQ scores fall between 90 and 110

70% of IQ scores fall between 85 and 115

95% of IQ scores fall between 70 and 130

99.5% of IQ scores fall between 60 and 140"

I've taken IQ scores in the past, but I don't remember the numbered outcome. So,

let's just say I'm in the average range. What is your  Intelligence Quotient (IQ)?

Don't lie about it, please.

*International Ask a Question Day

*Learn About Butterflies Day - I'm anxiously awaiting the return of the perennial

flowers that I have planted in the flower beds and the butterflies who are attracted

to these flowers.

*Legal Assistance Day

*Mother Day - I dedicate this day to my Mother who "art in Heaven."

*National Children's Craft Day

*National Pi Day - "Pi Day is celebrated on March 14th (3/14) around the world.

Pi (Greek letter “”) is the symbol used in mathematics to represent a constant

— the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter — which is

approximately 3.14159. Pi has been calculated to over one trillion digits beyond

its decimal point."

But I see online that you should celebrate this day by eating pie or pizza pie.

Must be because that both are a circle?

*National Potato Chip Day - I like salt. I keep all of my chips, pretzels and other

salted items in the Honda. If I'd keep them in my room I'd eat all of those

delicious salted items in one day.

*National Save a Spider Day - I like spiders. Most people don't. They're one of

God's creatures aren't they?

*Organize your Home Office Day - I guess I have a home office if I count this

this computer on top of my dresser I'm typing on right now. My 393rd story of

my life.

Observed the second Tuesday of March
*Science Education Day

What Happened On This Day – March 14

*1991 The Birmingham Six are released. The 6 men had been wrongly sentenced

to life imprisonment in 1975 for the IRA ( Irish Republican Army) Birmingham pub

*1979 Factory Plane Crash in China. At least 200 people are killed when a plane

crashes into a factory in China. According to some sources, the plane had

previously been stolen by the pilot who was not qualified to fly it.

*1960 The leaders of Germany and Israel confer for the first time. 15 years after

the end of World War II, West German Chancellor Konrad Adenauer and Israeli

Prime Minister David Ben-Gurion met at the Waldorf-Astoria in New York.

*1942 For the first time in history, a dying patient's life is saved by penicillin

Although some claim that the pioneering trials at the Radcliffe Infirmary in

Oxford, England resulted in the first cures using penicillin, Orvan Hess and

John Bumstead are generally credited with the first documented successful

*"By March 1942 enough penicillin had been produced under OSRD auspices to

treat the first patient (Mrs. Ann Miller, in New Haven, Connecticut); a further ten

cases were treated by June 1942, all with penicillin supplied by Merck & Co.,

At the time of that first injection of penicillin, Mother was about 2 months pregnant

with me.

*1910 The Lakeview Gusher causes the largest accidental oil spill in history.

The spill lasted 18 months and 9 million barrels of crude oil were released.

(Lakeview Gusher Number One was an eruption of hydrocarbons from a

pressurized oil well in the Midway-Sunset Oil Field in Kern County, California).

*I've found a new sewing lady who is a 15 minute drive from here going towards

Wooster. Her name is Judy. I have a first cousin named Judy whose Mother is my

Aunt Nita. Judy is one of of those good old names from times past that I like to

hear. Judy the sewing lady is from Kentucky and calls herself a (1) briar-hopper.

She does a good job of sewing American Flag patches on my clothes.

(1) "noun, Usually Disparaging. (chiefly in Ohio, Kentucky, and Tennessee) a term

used to refer to a rustic or hillbilly, especially one from Appalachia."

I certainly disagree with the term disparaging. I believe that to be a compliment.

I believe I'm a briar-hopper too because I was raised in the Shenandoah Valley

of Virginia on the eastern slopes of the Appalachians.

*Well, Heavens to Betsy! "The meaning is simple enough: it’s a mild American

exclamation of shock or surprise. It’s dated, only rarely encountered in print and

then most often as an evocation of times past. Heavens to Betsy is associated in

my mind with mature females of the Prohibition era or earlier (though this is

probably no more than a reflection of recent reading).

As to where it came from, nobody has the slightest idea. It seems to be one of

those old-time euphemistic non-curses that were active in the spoken language

for decades, but which came to be recorded in print only long after their

creation. By then, of course, any knowledge of the circumstances had been lost.

The Oxford English Dictionary has its first citation from 1914, but electronic

searches can take that back more than half a century...."

Did my Mother, Grandmothers great-Grandmothers use this saying? This old

brain of mine suddenly recalled it from "out of the blue." I'd sure like to know,

but since their in Heaven I may never know the answer to this question of mine.

*I told you in an earlier story of my life that I read a book that said their was a

list of people and their date of death. It was compiled by a group of monks in an

underground chamber who had connections with God and the devil. But I have

never been able to find this book. So I went on to a web site named: I filled in the required information and then

clicked SUBMIT. The results: Based on our calculations you will die on:

Monday, 31st December 2018. You will live to be 76 years, 2 months and 4 days

But, you see, I ain't afraid of dying like most people. I'm 74 and 4 months old

now and I've got over a year to live and I'm completely satisfied with that.

*President Trump's plan to replace the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare).

His plan is called the American Health Care Act.

Differences in the Affordable Care Act and the American Health Care Act:

1. Tax credits to help buy insurance.

2. No more limits on healthcare savings.

3. No more fines for the uninsured.

4. Insurance companies now set their own prices.

5. Cuts to women's healthcare - mostly to Planned Parenthood.

I have 3 insurance plans. There is never enough room on the form you fill out

for a 3rd insurance. I literally have no copays except for a few dollars once in

a while on prescription medications.

If I had no insurance when Barack Obama was president or now with Donald

Trump, I would probably prefer President Trump's American Health Care Act.

The reasons are tax credits to help buy insurance, no more limits on healthcare

savings, no more fines for the uninsured, allow health insurance to be purchased

across state lines, offer full premium tax deductions, emphasize health savings

accounts, require price transparency from health insurers and remove barriers

to entry for overseas drug providers.

The war in Syria has been long going involving many countries including Russia,
