YESTERDAY AND TODAY

**I finished spreading the black mulch on the flower beds yesterday and will probably

need another 6 bags to cover some of the beds more adequately. I also planted 4 sunflower

seeds of different varieties that I marked with a straw. I also sprayed some weed killer on

some weeds at various places in the flower beds and the yard mostly being of the wire

weed variety. I just found out online that wire weed is also called Bermuda Grass.

**Today's high temperature will be 67° with partly cloudy skies. I'm going to Loews and

Walmart in Wooster today. At Loews I'll look for some discounted plants and flowers and

maybe 3 bags of black mulch because that's all I have room for in the Honda. I may buy a

large fern and split it into about 6 different parts to plant because the ferns I planted last

show no signs of life. I also need another plastic container of weed killer that I can buy at

either Loews or Walmart.

I'll also spend some time at McDonald's working on a tomorrow's story or/and a video.

I HAVE SOMETHING ON MY MIND

**Today is Mother's Day. HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY to all no matter whether your a biological

mother or someone who has raised other women's children.

Establishment of holiday.

Mother's Day (United States) § History.

"The modern holiday of Mother's Day was first celebrated in 1908, when Anna Jarvis held a

memorial for her mother at St Andrew's Methodist Church in Grafton, West Virginia. St

Andrew's Methodist Church now holds the International Mother's Day Shrine. Her

campaign to make "Mother's Day" a recognized holiday in the United States began in 1905,

the year her mother, Ann Reeves Jarvis, died. Ann Jarvis had been a peace activist who

cared for wounded soldiers on both sides of the American Civil War, and created Mother's

Day Work Clubs to address public health issues. Anna Jarvis wanted to honor her mother

by continuing the work she started and to set aside a day to honor all mothers because she

believed that they were "the person who has done more for you than anyone in the world".

In 1908, the US Congress rejected a proposal to make Mother's Day an official holiday,

joking that they would also have to proclaim a "Mother-in-law's Day". However, owing to

the efforts of Anna Jarvis, by 1911 all US states observed the holiday, with some of them

officially recognizing Mother's Day as a local holiday, the first being West Virginia, Jarvis'

home state, in 1910. In 1914, Woodrow Wilson signed a proclamation designating Mother's

Day, held on the second Sunday in May, as a national holiday to honor mothers.

Although Jarvis was successful in founding Mother's Day, she became resentful of the

commercialization of the holiday. By the early 1920s, Hallmark Cards and other companies

had started selling Mother's Day cards. Jarvis believed that the companies had

misinterpreted and exploited the idea of Mother's Day, and that the emphasis of the

holiday was on sentiment, not profit. As a result, she organized boycotts of Mother's Day,

and threatened to issue lawsuits against the companies involved. Jarvis argued that people

should appreciate and honor their mothers through handwritten letters expressing their

love and gratitude, instead of buying gifts and pre-made cards. Jarvis protested at a candy

makers' convention in Philadelphia in 1923, and at a meeting of American War Mothers in

1925. By this time, carnations had become associated with Mother's Day, and the selling of

carnations by the American War Mothers to raise money angered Jarvis, who was arrested

for disturbing the peace."

I agree with Anna Jarvis and you know, I never did send Mother a handwritten letter. I

always sent a Mother's Day card and flowers. I feel awful bad about that now.

NEWS AND A COMMENT

*9:20 AM 5/14/2017 EDT. A massive global cyberattack affecting 200,000 victims will

cause more chaos on Monday. Business Insider - 56 minutes ago.

**Seems like this worm (WannaCry) ain't going to crawl away anytime soon. When

businesses open their computers tomorrow, they'll see a request for $300 to $600 to fix

the problem.

*9:56 AM 5/14/2017 EDT.  Old Windows PCs can stop WannaCry ransomware with new

Microsoft patch. PCWorld - ‎17 hours ago‎.

**It appears that, at least Microsoft, does have a solution to the above. I haven't heard yet

from Macintosh.

*10:02 AM 5/14/2017 EDT. Next cyber-attack could be imminent, warn experts.

BBC News - ‎10 hours ago‎.

"Another major cyber-attack could be imminent after Friday's global hit that infected more

than 125,000 computer systems, security experts have warned."

**Most liberal social media sites dramatize the news to gain subscribers. The BBC (British

Broadcasting Company) is known for its' neutrality. I believe it's fair to say that "another

major cyber-attack could be imminent."

*9:26 AM 5/14/2017 EDT. North Korea tests missile, raises new fears in Pacific.

CNN - ‎5 hours ago.‎

"North Korea carried out a provocative new ballistic missile test early Sunday, sending a

projectile to a higher altitude and closer to Russia than any of its recent tests, according to

officials."

**Here we go again. I believe that fat little dictator, Kim Jong Un, likes being the center of

attention and knows full well that no country will fire missiles at his country. Both he and

President Trump have agreed to a face-to-face meeting if the circumstances are right.

Because he is highly paranoid, I can't imagine him meeting in any other country besides

his own.

*9:42 AM 5/14/2017 EDT. Pope Francis acknowledges 2000-case backlog in sex abuse

cases. Fox News - ‎9 hours ago.‎

"Pope Francis addresses journalists during the traditional press conference on his flight

back to Rome, following a two-day visit at Fatima, Portugal, Saturday, May 13, 2017."

**Sex crimes against women and children are mostly man crimes. There is a long list of

of these predators including priests, Bill Cosby, maybe Bill Clinton, may two men who

worked for Fox News and others who can't keep their pants up.

I believe that God would have to ponder the sex crimes of these men for a lengthy time

before allowing them through Heaven's Gate.

*10:11 AM 5/14/2017 EDT. Erie County Health leaders warn about ticks, rabies after warm

winter. wivb.com - ‎46 minutes ago‎.

"Ticks Cause An Acute Inflammatory Disease Characterized By Skin Changes, Joint

Inflammation, And Flu-Like Symptoms Called Lyme Disease."

**I'm outdoors a lot. Working in Father and Mother's yard, the yard here and when leading

and teaching patrolling while in the US Army at Ft. McCoy, Wisconsin and other military

forts. I've found ticks on my body at practically each location, but have never, as far as I

know, developed Lyme Disease or other tick related diseases. Lyme is hard to diagnose

and may become full-blown disease before it is discovered. My advise is to constantly check

your body for burrowing ticks both outdoors and after coming inside.
